The club invites anyone with previous rowing experience to apply to study at St. Catharine’s College, Cambridge. Information on applying to the college for both undergraduate and graduate study can be found on the college’s website, here.
For undergraduates, applications to St. Catharine’s are made through the UCAS (and for non-EU student, the COPA) application forms and by selecting St. Catharine’s as a college preference. Guidance for undergraduate applications is available on the University website, here.
For graduate students, applications are done though the university GRADSAF application form, and by selecting St. Catharine’s as a preferred college. Guidance for graduate applications is available on the University website, here.
Rowing with SCCBC
Although part of a relatively small college, SCCBC is able to offer high quality facilities, yet unlike larger colleges, we retain a personal and sociable atmosphere. The club boasts its own boathouse, situated just off Kimberly Road, which houses the club’s expansive fleet of nine 8’s and a range of small sweep and sculling boats. These are regularly updated with the help of our generous alumni and sponsorship grants. Recently refurbished in 2012, the boathouse also consists of men’s and women’s changing rooms with showers and lockers; a kitchen; office; workshop; and 8 Concept 2 rowing machines. Club members also get free access to the college gym which has 4 further rowing machines, bikes and a selection of free-weights and weight-racks.
Both men’s and women’s squads benefit from our own professional coach Carmen Failla, who is supported by our team of dedicated volunteer coaches.
Each year the club competes in most events on the River Cam, including the Fairbairn Cup, Lent and May bumps. Upper boats also routinely enter larger national events such as HoRR/WeHoRR and HRR/HWR. The club also organises an international warm weather training camp for upper boats in January, travelling to locations such as Seville in Spain.
For more information about what we do throughout the year, and who to contact, please see the Getting Involved section of our website.
Rowing for the University
All our athletes are encouraged to get involved with the university rowing squads, whether through trialling for the respective men’s, women’s or lightweight boat races, or through the university development squads. The club has fielded a number of university and international level atheletes, which we aim to support throughout their time at St. Catharine's.
More information about university rowing can be found on the university clubs websites: CUBC, CUWBC and CULRC
